🌊 About the Africa Water Facility (AWF):

The AWF is a Special Fund under the Water Development and Sanitation Department, supporting water and sanitation projects across Africa. It provides:

  • Grants for project preparation and strategic investments
  • Technical assistance
  • Support for urban sanitation (via AUSII initiative)
  • Resource mobilization for investment in sustainable water infrastructure

🎯 Role Objective:

As Coordinator of the AWF, you will:

  • Lead the implementation of AWF’s strategy
  • Oversee daily operations, budget, and staff
  • Guide the preparation and appraisal of water and sanitation projects
  • Drive resource mobilization and donor engagement
  • Promote knowledge generation and dissemination
  • Ensure alignment with the AfDB’s broader water, climate, and development goals

📌 Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Management

  • Supervise the AWF team and operations
  • Ensure alignment of projects with AWF mandate
  • Lead planning, budgeting, and project portfolio development
  • Set performance goals and evaluate staff

2. Strategic Partnerships & Resource Mobilization

  • Engage with donors, governments, and regional organizations
  • Mobilize funding for AWF and AUSII initiatives
  • Represent AWF in regional and global forums

3. Policy & Technical Advice

  • Provide strategic advice to governments and stakeholders
  • Promote innovative financing and governance mechanisms
  • Foster best practices in water resource management

4. Knowledge & Communication

  • Lead knowledge creation and policy analysis
  • Ensure monitoring and reporting of AWF performance
  • Facilitate communication of AWF’s work internally and externally

Ideal Candidate Profile:

🎓 Education:

  • Master’s degree in Water Resources Management, Engineering, Sanitation, Development Economics, or related fields

🧠 Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in development or financial institutions
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong background in water sector development in Africa
  • Knowledge of public health, sanitation, and integrated water resources management
  • Private sector or multi-donor experience is a plus

🛠️ Skills:

  • Strong leadership, planning, and coordination abilities
  • Excellent strategic thinking and communication skills
  • Knowledge of AfDB procedures or similar institutions
  • Proficiency in French or English (with a working knowledge of the other)
  • Competence in Microsoft Office and preferably SAP
